This may be a) the strangest housekeeping tip next to covering a stuffed animals head mob-style with a sock before washing and b) the most time-consuming but worth it chore.
Monday Sheets is a concept I learned from my sister, who learned it from one of her clients. They called them Monday Sheets because the sheets were always washed and replaced on the beds on Mondays. You know that feeling of getting into a freshly made bed? Well, Monday Sheets is like getting into a freshly made bed surrounded by rainbows, unicorns, Snow White feeding baby animals, a few fireworks, the smell of fresh air, silky smooth let’s stay in bed ALL DAY.
I’m a solid white percale sheet gal. The crisper, the better. I have NEVER ironed a sheet in my entire life. My iron is strictly for crafts. I fuss at my kids when they mess up my bed after I have made it; I make my bed everyday. It’s not that big of a deal for me; it’s not always perfect, but I like getting into a made bed at the end of the day. It’s restful for me. Especially the day I lost SJ (he walked next door to our neighbor’s house without telling me) I needed a good nights sleep after THAT. (or that time he cut his hair into a mullet…)
When my sister told me about Monday Sheets, I knew she was Queen of Crazy Land. Its putting DAMP sheets on your bed. It makes no sense what so ever. And it would be a COMPLETE waste of my time to do this, have a major FAIL then have to re-wash sheets and most likely purchase a new mattress cover. I am not sure if this would have worked in St. Croix where it was always humid, but we’re not there anymore. Sooooooo, I gave it a try, secretly without telling anyone.
Here’s What You Do:
After you have washed your sheets, put your fitted sheet on while it is still damp. Smooth it out..run the fans, open the blinds to let the sun shine in. It will dry quicker than you think. And your bottom sheet will be smooth, wrinkle free. Now, retrieve your top sheet and just lay it flat on top, smooth it out and walk away for a couple of hours. You can do the same with your pillow cases, but I still hang mine on the line. Return a couple of hours later to a crisp, fresh set of sheets. Make that bed up corners and all and REVEL in the beauty of SMOOTH, CRISP sheets..if that’s your kind of thing.
When you get in bed that night, you won’t believe how great the sheets feel! More than clean! Crisp, smooth..fresh. I know, it is totally bizarre. I had to Google it because I thought it was a complete joke, but it turns out lots of people do this.
Give it a try, I promise, you won’t be disappointed. You don’t have to tell the world like I did, but I bet your spouse will totally notice and request Monday Sheets every day, to which you should reply “No, it takes too long.” Think about it, it really is a simple little thing AND good for the environment!
I DARE you to leave a comment to let me know how crazy this idea is.
